On the 8th of October the occupational therapist of the daycare center wanted to bring ‘autumn inside’. A group of us went out to collect leaves. Joseph was sitting in the wheelchair holding a plastic bag open for me to put the autumn leaves inside. When I said to him that our bag wasn’t full yet, he joked ‘My bag is always full’ (‘Mijne zak zit altijd vol’ in Dutch).
In the afternoon we sorted out the leaves in size and colour. Sometimes Joseph placed the leaves in the wright collection, but other times he just got the leaves out of the bag and put them all on top of each other. A few times he took a leaf out of the bag then it looked like he was hesitating and put the leaf back into the plastic bag. He remarked that sorting leaves was a womens job. ‘Women have more feeling for these kinds of things’.

No dia 8 de outubro, a terapeuta ocupacional do centro de dia queria trazer o ‘outono para dentro’. Um grupo saiu para recolher folhas. Joseph estava sentado na cadeira de rodas segurando um saco plástico aberto para eu colocar as folhas de outono dentro. Quando eu lhe disse que o nosso saco ainda não estava cheio, ele brincou "O meu saco está sempre cheio" ("Mijne zak zit altijd vol" em holandês).
À tarde, separámos as folhas por tamanho e cor. Às vezes, Joseph colocava as folhas na coleção certa, mas outras vezes, apenas tirava as folhas do saco e colocava todas umas em cima das outras. Algumas vezes, ele tirou uma folha do saco, ficou a olhar hesitante, e colocou a folha de volta no saco de plástico. Ele comentou que separar as folhas era tarefa de mulher. ‘As mulheres têm mais sentimentos para este tipo de coisas’.
